Neukolln’s renaissance can certainly be seen when you look at the growing amount of attractive food, drink and cafe options in the area. It has, over the last few years, really become the trendiest and most up-and-coming Berlin neighborhood.
So, below is our small guide to our favourite Neukolln restaurants, eateries and cafes.
Leuchtstoff Kaffeebar is a really pleasant young and hip cafe, similar to what you used to find in the early days in Prenzlauer Berg or Friedrichshain at the beginning of those areas’ renaissance. If you have time to stay on site (there is a takeaway option as well) you can sip their good coffee in the popular high-chaired sofa up a ladder and just underneath the ceiling – if it happens to be available. Else take any other seat – you will quickly feel at home.
Cafe Restaurant Louis: If you like Wiener Schnitzel (also called Milanese or Vienna escalope), you can find the largest one you have ever eaten (and at a reasonable price) at this restaurant in Neukolln. Schnitzels on the menu are made with pork meat, but there is a veal based meal as well – on request you should be able to get a veal Schnitzel too. Truly no nonsense tasty German and Austrian food. Highly recommended.
Cafe & Bar Prachtsaal, in the heart of Neukolln, alongside the leafy cobblestone Jonasstrasse, a cafe which takes you back to the 1950s. Good coffee, snacks, breakfast, and drink options too. Friendly staff and full of charm.
From Hanoi with Love offers excellent Vietnamese street food. Tasty and high quality. Sit down in the lovely eatery, buzzing with young people, and even on the terrace on a sunny day.
Liesl bar on Nogatstrasse has recently been recommended to us for its beer – the bar offers a few local beers on tap as well as a Bavarian beer.
Finally, check out this Qiez article (in German) for more options for breakfast in Berlin.
We do certainly welcome any feedback and input to make this list grow. Thanks in advance, and enjoy!
